Michelle Walsh holds a Master of Arts degree from the Contemplative Psychotherapy department at Naropa University, a fully accredited graduate school in Boulder, Colorado. She is a certified Yoga Teacher, having studied mainly in the Iyengar and Ashtanga systems and continues her studies with Patricia Walden in Cambridge. Michelle is a board-certified counselor and a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She has been studying Buddhism and practicing meditation for more than 15 years and has enjoyed extensive meditation retreats. Michelle has also completed advanced clinical studies in Mind-Body Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Michelle’s unique background and formal training in combining the benefits of contemplative approaches with traditional psychology result in a method that is truly holistic. Michelle has traveled far and wide, studying cultures and ways in which people find meaning and happiness in their lives. It was while living in Alaska that Michelle discovered her passion for working with youth-at-risk and empowering people to reach for their potential. Michelle continued to pursue her passions in Montana and began to integrate yoga and mindfulness into her work as she guided adolescents towards self-sufficiency in the Bob Marshall Wilderness area.
Michelle has been using an integrated approach to wellbeing with her clients for over 10 years and is passionate about helping her clients apply these principles in their daily lives. Michelle has an extensive background in teaching others how to live a balanced, eco-friendly life beginning with her work as a Program Director for a non-profit agency that teaches sustainable living techniques and also as the Education Program Director for a Buddhist Meditation Center. Having worked as an outpatient therapist, residential wilderness therapist and supervisor of treatment coordination for high risk adolescents, has enabled Michelle to integrate yoga therapy and wellness programming into traditional mental health settings. She presents locally and nationally, including at conferences such as the Symposium on Yoga Therapy and Research (SYTAR) and Yoga Journal. Michelle serves as a consultant to Mental Health agencies to help them integrate yoga and mindfulness practices with clients and also develops Wellness programs for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's adolescent and young adult treatment programs. She maintains a private practice in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Michelle looks forward to joining you on your journey!
